Reginald Bush

Reginald Bush, OPL Trustee

Reginald D. “Reggie”/“Doc” Bush is a 1983 graduate of the College of Liberal Arts where he studied Zoology, Chemistry, and Political Science. He has engaged himself with the education, social and civic concerns of his community and with University alumni relations for the past two decades.

As a community leader in Ossining, Reggie has made his presence felt county wide by his dedication to the Board of Director for Westchester Community Opportunity Program (WestCOP), where 2005 he finished a term on the Executive Committee, but continues to be a key player in their annual dinner dance planning and committee and a general member of the WestCOP Board of Directors. WestCOP is an organization countywide that implements and manages social programs for minorities from ages 3 through 93. It includes childcare, after school, teen, young adults, job prep, employment search, wheels to work, grand parenting and a list of other programs throughout the Westchester County communities.

Reggie is also heavily involved with Interfaith Council for Action (IFCA), a multi-million dollar organization that deals with affordable housing for low-income families. Reggie has been a member of the Board of Directors for the past 8 years, where in 2004 he was elected Chairman of the Board (the first minority to hold this title in this organization’s 38 year history). Reggie is a former member of the Ossining Zoning Board of Appeals and subsequently was appointed by the Mayor of Ossining to become a member of the Planning and Architectural Review Boards of Ossining in 2005, a five-year position he currently holds.

Mr. Bush has equally been involved in University affairs, having been selected by the President’s office to serve on the Founders Walk Council. He was selected and became a key member in the planning, implementation, and execution of the Metropolitan New York City Capital Campaign roll-out by President H. Patrick Swygert and then Chairman of the Board Frank Savage, held at the then new AOL/Time-Warner headquarters with Board of Trustee member Dick Parsons.

In the past he has held the position of National Vice President and Regional I Representative. He is currently Region I Chair (elected in November 2005 by the current Executive Committee), which spans from Maine to New Jersey, The Caribbean Islands, Europe, and South Africa. He has held the position of President for the Howard University Alumni Club of Westchester/Rockland, NY for the past 10 years (he was bestowed the honor of President Emeritus in September, 2005). He has conducted many “black college” forums in his school district of Ossining and has a “special” relationship with the school system and has collaborated on several occasions, promoting Howard University as a choice and not an alternative for furthering education of our young Black talented students. Mr. Bush can also be seen countywide at college fairs talking about alma mater and encouraging students to apply to the Mecca.. An unselfish leader not just in his community and beyond, but for Alma Mater too. He would be a tremendous asset to the position of Vice President of Membership.
