MEDIA AND EQUIPMENT CONSIDERATIONS FOR THE PERFORMANCE SPACE
These considerations are based on the premise that this space will be multi-functional. They are by no means exhaustive, but serve as a basis for discussion with the Committee as a Whole and the architect.
SOUND AND AUDIO
A multi-channel sound reinforcement system of the noise-canceling, non-feedback type. The system should be capable of mixing wireless and fixed microphone inputs for live speech and/or music, as well as play-back of the audio portion of such.other sources as: off-the-air/satellite/cable television; videotapes, cassettes and CD/DVD formats; computer generated audio; digital and analog audio signals from disks and tapes and such other storage media as may be available at the time of construction.. The system should be capable of accommodating theatre-style surround sound formats with appropriate speakers configured for the space.
The system should also be capable of:
- Providing an audio feed suitable for use by the local cable system or broadcaster. (A live video/audio origination feed should be discussed with the cable company).
- A sound recording capability compatible with audio feeds from the sound-reinforcement system.
- For the hearing challenged, an infra-red system driven by signals from the sound-reinforcement system and picked up by the patron using wireless infra-red sound amplifying headphones.
- Audio inputs/outputs from such traditional audiovisual devices as phonographs, audio tape and cassette players, filmstrip, slide and film projectors.
- Multi-channel standard headphone outlets when speakers are not required/desired.
PROJECTION FACILITIES, COMPUTER AND VIDEO EQUIPMENT
- Large screen projection system capable of high quality reproduction of: high definition and standard broadcast/cable/satellite signals; signals from digital video formats such as DVD disks, video cameras and digital still cameras, desktop/portable computers, high speed modems. The system should be able of projecting useful images under varying light levels.
- Available technology to take advantage of large screen projection facilities in connection with devices that assist the visually impaired, such as large text readers and for the hearing impaired, sub or super titling.
- A screen or screens sufficiently large to serve an assembled group with high quality resolution, reflection and viewing angle characteristics for use with electronically generated visuals. A traditional high quality front screen for use with older visual projection equipment. Screens to be mounted such that they can be safely stored when not in use and positioned easily on demand.
- High quality video camera, internal/external microphone and adjustable mount.
- Video playback/record equipment for current (time of construction) and recent past formats.
- Suitable computer with video editing software.
- Projection tables, mounts and power/data outlets as required, with particular attention to the needs of standard audiovisual equipment such as slide/film/overhead projectors, older technology cassette and disc playback devices.
- Special attention to be given to the need for multiple computer outlets and data source inputs where the space is used for group instruction/participation.
ROOM LIGHTING AND ASSOCIATED ITEMS
- A general room lighting scheme that includes lights and controls to meet varied media and performance light level requirements.
- Adjustable lighting for solo/group musical, readings, theatrical and speaker/lecturer performance.
- A lectern with some media and lighting remote control.
- Track /ceiling lighting for exhibits mounted on walls and/or on tables/cases.
- A readily adjustable, flexible wall mounting system for art, photographs, posters, mixed media etc.
- Unimpeded audience sight lines, area visibility to staff and sound treatment of floor, ceiling and wall surfaces and reduced dependence on exposed floor cables.
STORAGE AND WORK SPACE
Implicit in the considerations above is the need for adequate storage for equipment, cables, lights, tables, display materials etc. and work space to prepare for the use of such items.

The Ossining Public Library telephone/telecommunications system should be reviewed with reference to future patron/staff calling needs, internal communication, external connections via DSL/county fiber optic backbone/satellite, connections to the WLS automation system, suitability for accessing and distributing increased loads of data,
