When did construction start?
Demolition and site work at the Jackson site started in late January of 2005.
The construction of the new library began in June of 2005.
When will the new library open?
Opening day is projected to be August, 2006. There will be a short interruption in service before opening day, when we close the current building and transfer our books to the new library.
What will the exterior look like?
You will see a two-story brick building on a stone foundation; a third, lower level will be visible from the rear of the property. The roof will be metal. Large windows facing west and north will allow
views of the Hudson. Here is the latest rendering of the exterior.
Will the building be energy-efficient?
The new library will be certified by
the U.S. Green Building Council as an example of
modern energy-efficient design. The building will be heated and cooled
with an innovative geothermal energy system that will significantly reduce
operating costs.
What's going on behind the scenes now?
A committtee is meeting bi-weekly to chart
the progress of the construction and to keep a close eye on the budget. Right now,
we're turning our attention to furniture and shelving choices and interior design issues.
You can always chart our progress by visiting our expansion page.
